External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj has implicated Pakistan for sponsoring terrorists. She stated that militants find shelter in countries who use terrorism as “Instrument of State Policy”. She has also appealed the other BRICS nations to criticize Pakistan's actions. Swaraj is in New York to attend the UN General Assembly session. Multinational meetings like BRICS, BRICS, IBSA, SAARC and India-CELAC are also being conducted.
“The horror of terrorism continues to haunt global peace and security. Terror groups draw sustenance from support systems in South Asia,” Mrs. Sushma Swaraj stated at the BRICS Ministerial Meeting. This statement came after Pakistan PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s oration at the UN General Assembly on Thursday.
However, she did not specify any particular company but the reference obviously was to Pakistan. She has called for the supply of weapons, funding and political support for terrorists to be halted systematically.
"EAM herself in her speech did come down heavily on terror groups operating with support system by other countries. It is basically a very strong signal to Pakistan to stop using terrorism as an instrument of state policy, stop giving sanctuaries to known terrorist outfits that are recognised by the United Nations," said Mr. Raveesh Kumar, spokesperson for External Affairs Ministry.
The IBSA meeting was directed by Swaraj herself and she has mentioned terrorism as a worldwide threat. "All the countries, who are part of this grouping they agreed with this nature of the threat. We did announce at the IBSA Foreign Ministry meeting that India will be hosting the sixth IBSA summit in 2018." Mr. Kumar said. However, no statement about other SAARC members or Pakistan was given by him.
Point to be noted is that India proposed the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT) in 1996 to intensify the litigation and expulsion of terrorists.
